Have you ever been such a big procrastinator that every time you talk about your future plans you say, “Oh, someday I’ll do that”? If so, you have a case of the “somedays.” I relate to your pain. I’ve been there…
I’ve put off things for years. I’ve put so many things on the back burner that I have no idea what the front burner is!
Well, not any more…
I made a decision recently to stop having the somedays and to take action when it comes to my dreams. Yes, I’ve made intentions like this in the past without action ensuing. But, this time around, I realized that I need to be serious. So, no more procrastination.
I’ve noticed that these things help me in moving forward:
1) Take one small step each day at a minimum. Chances are, you’ll do more than that each day. But, if you take at least one step each day, you’re guaranteeing your success since small steps add up to big ones at the end of the year.
2) Celebrate your accomplishments. Even if you just buy yourself a coffee or take time to listen to a meditation CD, you are celebrating and honoring yourself. Celebration gives you something to look forward to with each accomplishment, even if they are “small” ones.
3) Only talk to supportive people who will hold you accountable. If you talk to people who allow you to procrastinate, you’re setting yourself up to not succeed. For me, true friends push you to take action and move forward. Surround yourself with people who support you and your dreams.
4) Relax and chill out from time to time. Sometimes, you truly need a break. I discovered this recently when I fell asleep on the couch without realizing it. I was that tired. I just conked out on the couch. I felt better and more inspired once I woke up rested and refreshed.
5) Take the word “someday” out of your vocabulary. The words you speak have energy. They become your reality. If you don’t allow yourself to say “someday,” you will become more in the present, and this will make you more focused on your goals. It’s not always easy to be in the present, but you can get there eventually–with practice. It just takes practice. Try it and see. See what it’s like to eliminate the word “someday” out of your vocabulary.
These may sound obvious, but I just felt guided to share this part of my journey with you. Let me know what you think. What has worked for you when it comes to eliminating and curing yourself of the “somedays”? Share here with us…
